A. Vaccines are the most powerful public health tool for control of influenza, and the U.S. government is working closely with manufacturers to take steps in the process to manufacture a novel H1N1 vaccine. Working together with scientists in the public and private sector, CDC has isolated the new H1N1 virus and modified the virus so that it can be used to make hundreds of millions of doses of vaccine. Vaccine manufacturers are now using these materials to begin vaccine production. Making vaccine is a multi-step process which takes several months to complete. Candidate vaccines will be tested in clinical trials over the few months.

Representative Herrod’s criticism fails to grasp the point of Just the Facts. For this study, Sutherland asked a simple question: does broad data from county jails justify the claim that many, if not most, undocumented immigrants are criminals? Based on the study, the answer is a quantifiable no. Only 3.9% of inmates in Utah’s county jails are known to be undocumented. In other words, Representative Herrod’s point about a jail’s “state contract status” is irrelevant. The simple fact is that only a small portion of criminals sitting in county jails are known to be undocumented.

I answered the door with a towel wrapped around me and still half asleep and they told me that there was a lady registering cars illegally to my home and asked if I knew her. They showed me a picture and I told them that I had never seen her. At this point they asked if my wife could look at the photograph as well. She did and told them she had never seen this woman. (Now as an instructor in Democracy Schools I would know not to even open the door and to ask for a warrant with her name on it signed by a Judge which was never shown to us)

Whether you call it H1N1, the swine flu, a hybrid flu or anything else, it’s a tiny virus that’s turned into a big worry for a lot of people who, right now, probably shouldn’t be worried at all.
But public health officials can’t ignore the outbreak. To make sense of what they are doing—and what they’re not doing—you have to understand a bit of statistics. One key concept running through the scientists’ minds is what’s called a Type 1 vs. Type 2 error. It boils down to this: If yo u’re going to be making a bet, which way would you rather be wrong?

Influenza pandemics can occur when a novel strain of virus causes an epidemic that spreads over a wide geographic area and affects an exceptionally high proportion of the population. Intervals between previous pandemics have varied from 11 to 42 years with no recognisable pattern. The last pandemic was in 1968/69. Prior to that pandemics occurred in 1957/58 and 1918/19. The impact of the next pandemic could have a devastating effect on the health and well being of the American public. Widespread illness in the community will also increase the likelihood of sudden and potentially significant shortages of personnel who provide other essential community services.

According to Benjamin Franklin himself, many of the proverbs and aphorisms found in "Poor Richard's Almanack" were gleaned from the "wisdom of the ages and nations." In the dictums and maxims that follow, one hears echoes of the Bible, the ancients, and collections of proverbs readily available in Franklin's own time. Yet, in recrafting many older sayings, Franklin, who was among other things an inventor and musician, brought new design and melody to timeworn truisms.
Franklin once created a list of 13 virtues to live by.

Successful small businesses are critical to maintaining a robust U.S. economy. The numbers almost speak for themselves:
• 99 percent of all American businesses are small;
• small businesses provide approximately 75 percent of the net new jobs added to the U.S. economy every year;
• small businesses represent 99.7 percent of all employers;
• small businesses employ 50.1 percent of the private workforce;
• small businesses provide 40.9 percent of private sales in the country.
It is truly the innovation, resilience, and determination of small-business owners that centers them at the heart of the American economy. Small businesses broaden the base of participation in society, create jobs, decentralize economic power, and give people a stake in the future.
Owning a small business is hard work, but it is not without its rewards. Small-business ownership encourages personal freedom and individual empowerment. It builds and perpetuates social and political stability. And it spurs the kind of innovation that creates gains in productivity, thereby increasing local, and even national, prosperity.
But small businesses cannot do it alone. The U.S. government plays a crucial role in creating an environment in which entrepreneurs can flourish. We implement policiesto reduce burdensome regulations and remove red tape so as to create a small-business-friendly environment that supports the perpetuation of neighborhood grocery stores and local tailors. Without careful attention, government policies could crush the small-business sector of any economy. In order to create an environment in which U.S. small businesses can prosper, President George W. Bush has joined with private-sector, nonprofit, and community and faith-based organizations to focus talent, expertise, and other resources on facilitating economic growth and enterprise all across America, and particularly in otherwise neglected areas. Together these groups are educating interested Americans about entrepreneurship. They are offering classes on how to hire employees, negotiatecontracts, and market products.
